The Neighbourhood

Steeple Aston is a picturesque lively village Steeple Aston is a pretty village in Oxfordshire, with a local pub, shop and playground. There are plenty of walks to enjoy, including a stroll along the canal at nearby Lower Heyford, with all the narrow boats and wildlife to see, as well as the opportunity to stop for refreshments at our local waterside bar/bistro. The property provides an excellent base to explore the many sights of the area. It's just 15 minutes from both Blenheim Palace with its beautiful grounds and historic buildings, and Bicester Village with its vast selection of luxury designer outlets. Oxford is a 25 minute drive away and always has lots going on - whether you're looking for museums, theatre trips or punting! You can also easily explore the Cotswolds - places like Burford and Bourton-on-the-Water are just 35-45 minutes away.

Most ideal is the proximity to Soho Farmhouse which is just a 15 minute drive from the house! Created by the Soho House group, this is not your standard rural retreat: a boutique hotel meets Canadian wilderness cabin meets American country club. What was once a derelict farm has been transformed with some 40 reclaimed timber cabins flanking four man-made lakes and the original 18th-century farmhouse buildings. Electric milkfloats whisk guests around the estate, while families pedal by in matching dressing gowns and cow-print wellies. If feels more Truman Show than true country living.
The cavernous space that is the Main Barn offers three restaurants in one – the main restaurant built around a rectangular cocktail bar with two mezzanines offering child-free dining (Fancy Farm is the more formal of the two) – and is surprisingly atmospheric. Sustainability is a key theme with the menus celebrating the best of British.
Other dining options include Japanese sushi grill Pen Yen, al fresco dining in the central courtyard and the farmshop-cum-deli for light bites. The Mill Room pub stays open until the last person leaves, with DJs at weekends and guest encouraged to “jam on stage” even on school nights. If that feels like too much effort the milk floats deliver a mean cocktail.

Getting Around

The property has parking for several cars. Having a car is essential, however there is a good bus link from the village into Oxford city centre. It is just a 20 minute walk to the mainline train station to London. There is also a local taxi service available.

Oxford is a small city so you can get to most places by foot. The city recently introduced pay as you go bikes which can be used by downloading an app, such as OFO and Pony bikes. The central bus station is located on George Street. There are a number of bus services covering Oxford and the surrounding areas as well as London and southern airports, just jump on at your nearest stop! The main train station in central Oxford is on New Road, from here you have quick access to London. Alternatively there is the Oxford Parkway train station which travels between Oxford, Bicester village and London Marylebone. We recommend the Royal Cars taxi app.
