Summertown is a one-mile square suburb of Oxford City north of St Giles bounded by the River Cherwell to the east and the Oxford Canal to the west. Home to several independent schools and boasting large and attractive residential properties, Summertown has the city’s most expensive houses. There are popular shops and cafes on both sides of the Banbury Road making this a vibrant shopping and business centre. There is also a smaller street of shops and restaurants, South Parade, which links the Banbury and Woodstock Road. Summertown is home to much of Oxford's broadcast media including BBC Radio Oxford and Jack FM and the BBC Television's Oxford studios are on Banbury Road. Sports and Leisure facilities are very close by with the Ferry Leisure Centre and Nuffield Health all within walking distance. Access to Oxford City is particularly easy from Summertown with buses running every few minutes throughout the day. Oxford Parkway with direct train links to Marylebone London Station and Bicester Village is a short bus ride away.
Oxford is a small city so you can get to most places by foot. The city recently introduced pay as you go bikes which can be used by downloading an app, such as OFO and Pony bikes. The central bus station is located on George Street. There are a number of bus services covering Oxford and the surrounding areas as well as London and southern airports, just jump on at your nearest stop! The main train station in central Oxford is on New Road, from here you have quick access to London. Alternatively there is the Oxford Parkway train station which travels between Oxford, Bicester village and London Marylebone. We recommend the Royal Cars taxi app.
