The Neighbourhood

St Clements is a small district in Oxford, on the east bank of the River Cherwell. Its main road, St Clement's Street links The Plain near Magdalen Bridge where there are a number of shops and bars with London Place at the foot of Headington Hill. South Park is a park within walking distance of St Clements and is the largest park within Oxford city limits. Great views of the city centre with its historic spires and towers of Oxford University can be obtained at the park's highest point. The quirky Cowley Road where you will find numerous independent cafes and charity and vintage shops runs parallel with St Clements Street and can be enjoyed on foot.

Cowley Road is just over a mile long and runs south-east from Oxford’s Magdalen Bridge near the Plain in the City Centre to the inner city area of East Oxford. The road has a large number of fascinating multicultural shops, facilities, cafes bars and restaurants. Many local students from the City and Oxford Brookes frequent the busy side streets with its “Bohemian Chic” image as do local residents who benefit from living in houses with relatively high price tags. There are a number of charity shops and Reign Vintage an Independent local shop has a great selection of vintage clothes. If you are looking for good cafes, try Beetroot, which offers lovely salads and wonderful cakes. For restaurants, Café Coco serves Mediterranean food from breakfast till dinner and has an interesting interior with unusual figurative sculptures. Kazbar located opposite is well liked by both locals and visitors alike for its excellent Tapas and cocktails and warm ambience. The décor inside transports you to southern Spain with Moroccan lattice candles, curved archways, intricate metal work, bold mustard yellow walls and plush cushions adorning the seats. The atmosphere in the evening is relaxed & exotic with low fighting largely made up of candles. Both of these restaurants have outdoor seating where guests can spill out onto the streets on warm sunny days and evenings.

Getting Around

Buses to London and Luton and Gatwick Airports run through St Clements regularly as do buses into the City Centre which is normally about a 15 minute walk

Oxford is a small city so you can get to most places by foot. The city recently introduced pay as you go bikes which can be used by downloading an app, such as OFO and Pony bikes. The central bus station is located on George Street. There are a number of bus services covering Oxford and the surrounding areas as well as London and southern airports, just jump on at your nearest stop! The main train station in central Oxford is on New Road, from here you have quick access to London.
